A Brief History of the Flower Show

Rhodes Minnis has staged a Flower Show continuously since 1970. Before then, the Womens Institute were holding Shows in their W.I, Hut (which sadly now is demolished and built on) at the top of Longage Hill.

The Rhodes Minnis Sports Club (later changing it's name to the Rhodes Minnis Sports & Social Club) then ran them in their hall in Whitehorse Lane until 1988 when this also was demolished as the new village hall had been built along Chapel Lane. The village hall management committee have run the Flower Shows ever since and although there have been some years when the entries have been low, on the whole they are proving very popular.

We have always had a vegetable, flower, cooking, floral art children's classes but we have added to these over the years. We now have a photographic, a craft and a miscellaneous section as well.

We now have copies of the Flower Show Schedules from 1970 to 2022 online. [Link]

There are many cups to be won, all of which have been donated by people who have had some connection with the Sports Club/Village hall. These go back over many years and sadly, 8 of those people are no longer with us but their memories live on.

For the 2022 Spring Show there were 95 entries from 12 people.
The 2022 Summer Show had 134 entries from 13 people.
